For those who seek employment opportunities in HK

1)
Is it difficult for a foreigner to find a job in HK ?
With the exception of teaching positions, which are always in high demand here, or very specific and specialized skills which are not available locally, most employers would consider it a “high risk” and would be reluctant to hire an unknown candidate directly from overseas. Also, the days of big expat packages are over, any hire would be on local terms. It would be advisable for any candidate who wish to work in Hong Kong to come to Hong Kong first, and then apply as a “local” applicant.

2)
Which business sectors have the most job offers and would be easiest to find well paid positions for qualified candidates?
Demand is always high in banking and financial services, especially in compliance, risk, audit, insolvency. Business Development is likewise very much in demand as well, and anything to tie in with manufacturing, engineering, construction for China are always good too.

3)
Wishing to contact a head hunter?
Headhunters in Hong Kong tend to specialize in specific sectors. For the above
mentioned “high demand” categories, we recommend

Argyll Scott International
Shane Sibraa – Managing Director

4)
Need relocation assistance?
Hong Kong is a very efficient city, people here are resourceful and competent,
(a) most large companies will have a list of relocation experts to assist or at least point you in the right directions.
(b) Hong Kong’s government bends herself backwards to offer information for public consumption, everything is easily and readily available. There are loads of information available on the internet about Hong Kong’s taxation, lifestyle, and every facet of life.
(c) International moving companies are usually very helpful:
(ii) Sante Fe - www.santaferelo.com
(iii) Alliedpickfords - www.alliedpickfords.com.hk
(iv) Proway - www.proway.com.hk
