Makeovers

The most dramatic success of makeovers happen on television shows. An ugly duckling disappears behind the screen, an army of specialists pounces on her, she re-emerges a swan! In the "Extreme Makeover Show” they even throw in a nose job + liposuction for good measure…

Unfortunately, in real life it doesn't happen that way. There isn't a "team" of specialists pouncing on us, and even if there was, we would probably feel more violated than flattered. Most of us are fairly set in our own ways, a makeover may or may not necessarily improve our looks. The more complex questions are: Do we genuinely like the new look ? Do we feel comfortable in this new identity ? “Is this me??!!” How long could we maintain this look ? The truth is, the makeover, no matter how good or dramatic, would not transform us into a different person, and we would just as easily slip right back to the way we were, if not the very next day, at most the next week or two.

Very few of us actually need a total overhaul – or complete makeover, so be wary if anybody insists on offering you one.

Image Consultant

A qualified image consultant will show you how to balance style, colours, body shape, size and proportion; how to accessorize; how to wear what you wear, walk the walk and look the look... in order to enhance your personality and optimize your overall appearance. That is what can happen if she is qualified, if the selected style in fact suits you, and if there is a good chemistry between you and your consultant. This could work miracles.

However, many things can go wrong because it is difficult for us to quantify the amount of chemistry a client may develop with a specific consultant. Styling is a matter of taste, and taste is subjective and intangible. No matter how qualified, an image consultant is afterall, only as good as her client. Some clients don't listen, some listen and don't understand, some understand and don't agree, some agree but don’t remember, some remember and don't bother. So unless you are resolute about it, with an unwavering determination that you will stick with guidelines she gives you, an image consultant may not be right for you.

How else to look better without much ado?

We have learned from experience that the best way to help a client improve her appearance is to let her do it “by installment” – one part at a time. This demands less of her time and commitment, the client’s acceptance level will be higher, and it also has a more lasting effect.

Personal Shopper

In selecting a “Personal Shopper”, please remember 3 basic rules : (1) referrals are usually better than blind appointments through an advertisement, cause dishonest ones take rebates from the retailers & tend to look after their own interests first. (2) "Shopaholics" are usually very good, cause they are passionate about shopping, they know where to go for what, and will not waste your precious time visiting all the wrong shops, they are usually resourceful and relentless in helping you find what you want. (3) Choose someone whose company you enjoy, it should be fun shopping together. Some seasoned shoppers tend to impose their own styles onto their clients regardless whether or not appropriate, this would stress you out so much her company probably hurts more than it helps..

How the Personal Shopper dresses herself is totally irrelevant. Many of us grew up shopping with our mothers, remember ? Apart from being your resourceful guide, she should be your trusted companion and sounding board. Ask her to watch out for your rear views, side views, symmetrical lines, color harmony, proportions to your body shape and length…that would most certainly do it.

Date Coaching & Counselling

It took mothers generations to realize and admit that raising children is actually a learned skill, and modern mothers are all scrambling to read books, take classes and attend seminars… Dating is likewise a learned skill, especially if you have not done an awful lot of it in your life.

The job of a Consultant is to handle the day to day communication with designated clients. Specific “date coaching” or “counseling” is not included. We have six Consultants in HK Matchmakers, Mrs Kathy Chiron is actually a qualified Date Coach and Mrs. Regina Lo Barrington is actually a qualified counselor. Should a client so wishes, she/he may arrange with Kathy directly for private lessons and/or with Regina for private sessions regardless whether or not she has been assigned to you as your Consultant.
