The life of a single guy is hectic & exciting, if he is not married, it is seldom because he cannot find a wife, more likely he has too many and cannot make up his mind... or he is having so much fun he sees merits in procrastination.The truth is, single men in HK have multiple high calibre girlfriends even when they look like frogs and themselves have little to offer.

 

A married man considers himself a good husband and father as long as he brings home the money and makes an appearance on all important family occasions. Being “faithful” is relative rather than absolute, most men stray a little at best, many have mistresses in China. Very few women would divorce their husbands for minor indiscretions. For every wife who will not tolerate infidelity, there are two who will just grin & bear it – for the children, for the family .

 

 

She is educated, fully bilingual, competent, adaptable and financially independent. If she is more successful than her husband – which is not uncommon, she would play it down to give him face.  Family is important to her, she is a good daughter, and will make a responsible wife and mother. She respects her husband, supports him and stands by him come what may. 

 

 

There is not one reason but a number of reasons:

 

a) Gender Imbalance – 

The population of Hong Kong consists of more women than men. 

 

b) High Cost of Apartments – 

Buying an apt in HK requires 30-50% deposit. At such preposterous prices, that is enough reason for procrastination.

 

c) Mixed Culture –

Once a British colony with insufficient universities, many students were sent abroad for further education. These return as adults with a mixed bag of internationalism so that we now have cultural differences even among ourselves.

 

d) Busy Lives–

The city doesn't sleep, we work ridiculously long hours and we travel frequently. Evening self enrichment classes are as common as "Guanxi" is important, and there are plenty of after work opportunities for both where many feel obligated to attend. In brief, there is hardly time for personal relationships.

 

e) Fierce Competition – 

For the 300,000+ domestic servants from the Philippines & Indonesia, marrying a HK man means a HK passport !!  Such competition is trivial when compared with that of tenacious Chinese mainlanders with a similar agenda.

 

f) Strong Women –

Well educated HK women are high achievers. They excel in schools, bring results at work, get power jobs and earn well. Traditional Chinese men would find such women intimidating & unattractive.

             

 

A lady client goes on an overseas matching trip, and our associate office at destination will work with her, and she will have the opportunity to meet a number of pre-selected matches, allowing enough time for repeat dates where applicable. Upon her return, she continues to communicate with them via emails, skype, phone calls, etc... This is not only a vibrant, exciting fun city, it is economically very strong, and enjoys probably the lowest tax in the world. There are also couples who have chosen to maintain two homes.

 

The state of economy should never be the reason for marrying someone, but if the agenda fits, why not?
