Message for Hong Kong Women
Hong Kong women are probably more adaptable to long distance relationships than anybody else in the world. We have a long history of this life style and are well trained:
Historical
Long before the neon lights and Chanel handbags came, Hong Kong was but a poor little fishing village. Husbands & brothers went fishing in China waters didn’t return home for weeks at a time.
Life was hard, men seeking jobs would venture to the “South Seas” "南洋" (– i.e. today’s Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines) leaving families behind. Eventually, war and communism drove us even further apart - to "金山" (today's USA, Canada, the UK, Australia…) Poverty drove our work-seeking men to the four corners of the world, so money could be sent home.. Such was the lifestyle of Hong Kong people. The Amah Rock still stands today as a monument to the infinite patience of all the waiting wives.
Educational
Slowly, Hong Kong began to prosper - but being a British colony meant someone else was in charge. In spite of improved living circumstances, there were not enough schools or universities so families had to send their children abroad for education. Once again, another form of long distance relationships took hold.
Political
On 1/7/1997, we were to be returned to Chinese rule at the stroke of midnight. Fearing the worst, many had planned for years prior, an emigration tactic whereby fathers and husbands would stay behind to work in Hong Kong for as long as prosperity would sustain, while families had long emigrated to faraway lands...Toronto, Vancouver, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles … etc.. We used to call these commuting fathers and husbands “ The Astronauts ” .
Economical
Hong Kong continues to boom after the handover. With the economies in Europe as dire as it is in the States, China rocks. Many erstwhile emigrants are now immigrating home, only the scenario has changed. Many husbands who claim to be “living” in Hong Kong in fact spend substantial parts of their working lives in China, trying to return home as often as they can. For the lucky wives whose husbands actually live and work “full time” in Hong Kong now, the question is: “ but for how much longer ?” The writing is on the wall, as China continues to boom, business migration into the Mainland is inevitable… sooner or later, so will the husbands …and once again, the wives will be left with yet another round of long distance relationships anyway.

How Does One Build and Maintain A Long Distance Relationship ?
A lady client goes on an overseas matching trip, we normally recommend 8-12 days, with 10 days being the most ideal. Our associate office at destination will work with her, and she will have the opportunity to meet a number of pre-selected matches, allowing enough time for repeat dates with candidates she prefers. Upon her return, she continues to communicate with them via emails, phone calls, skype etc……Very soon, the situation will crystalize, and it becomes perfectly clear within a couple of months just with whom among the "selected few" a relationship would most likely blossom. At this stage, we would encourage a second meeting promptly... if all goes well, the next stage would be a holiday together. Usually after the holiday, the relationship would become strong enough to continue on its own, without further assistance from our part.
But I DON’T Want To Relocate !!!!
Two intelligent people together will easily see which place of abode would make more sense and be far more advantageous for their future lives – this has never been as big an issue as people imagine it to be.
In the many cases we have witnessed, “relocation” was a problem that solved by itself. For as many women who have happily relocated to the husbands’ countries, there are as many men who have chosen to relocate here, because Hong Kong is not only a vibrant, fun and exciting city, it is economically stronger than their own countries at the moment, and we also have the lowest tax in the world. There are also couples who simply choose to maintain two homes.
The state of economy should never be the reason for marrying someone, but if the agenda fits, why not?
